Occupational therapy
Occupational therapists at Polinsky Medical Rehabilitation
Center improve a child’s ability to perform everyday tasks. A child’s “occupation”
is any activity that “occupies” his or her time. For example, a school-age child’s
occupation is learning. We focus on the skills necessary for the job of living an
independent and satisfying life.
We help children develop these skills:
- Cognitive
skills, such as problem-solving, organization, attention span and following directions
- Daily living skills, such as feeding, dressing and grooming
- Strength and fine-motor
coordination, such as reaching, grasping and writing
- Visual coordination
- Sensory
integration/sensory processing
Our occupational therapists specialize in Sensory
Integration/Processing, Interactive Metronome Therapy, and Therapeutic Listening. They also conduct Sensory Integration Praxis Tests and are
certified in pool therapy.
