Our technology and equipment

A strong rehabilitation program is built on an experienced staff and access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Polinsky Medical Rehabilitation Center has both.

We consistently invest in cutting-edge equipment that helps our patients rebuild their bodies, their minds and their lives. Many purchases are made through the generosity of the Van Gorden Fund of the Miller-Dwan Foundation.

We offer:
  • Balance Master, an advanced computerized system that observes how you keep your balance. It is the only one of its kind in the Northland. Robomedica, a body weight support system that helps patients learn to walk again. It’s the only one in Minnesota.

  • Saeboflex, an orthotic device that helps people with neurological impairments work on hand grasp and release

  • Hand Mentor, a new technology that helps restore range of motion and strengthens muscles in wrists and fingers, particularly in patients who have had a stroke or brain injury.

  • Bioness, which electronically stimulates arms, hands and legs to recover use and motion

  • LiteGate Walker, a body weight support system that helps develop posture and balance for walking

  • Environmental Control System, a computer-assisted system that allows people to control their environment -- turn on the lights, adjust the TV’s volume or answer the phone -- with a head movement or voice command

  • XSenors Pressure Mapping System, a medical seating system that helps clinicians assess pressure on patients’ weight-bearing areas

  • Dynavision, a training device that increases range of motion in the arms and shoulder; improves balance and reaction times; and teaches compensatory scanning strategies for people with visual impairments

  • Digital Swallowing Station/FEES, which uses a fiber-optic scope to evaluate swallowing and provide video images to aid in therapy

  • Vital Stim, which uses electrodes to stimulate throat muscles and nerves to aid swallowing

  • DynaVox, an electronic communication device that allows people with communication challenges to communicate their wants and needs.
